Sunday sewing

Thankyou to  everyone who left such lovely comments on my last post about my sewing room. I am having so much fun in there. I have chosen a winner for my charm pack give away and that lucky person is Christine M.
Please email me your address Christine and I'll post these out to you.
At work last week we got some beautiful Tilda fabrics, they are so pretty. I have had fun playing with these.

I thought I would have a go at designing my own project so stay tuned for more.
This is a table runner I made for my friend Wendy for her birthday at the start of the month. The good old tumbler blocks, looks good in any fabrics. These french General fabrics  give the block a modern feel.
Yesterday I sewed with some pretty tilda fabrics,  getting those white bars to keep straight with the next line was an effort. I think I have figured  it out now.
I have also finished 2 quilt tops, I'm so happy with how much I can achieve when I don't have to get everything out to sew for just a short period of time. Having it all set up ready to go is wonderful.
I have made this quilt before using Bliss fabrics and while I do love it I felt it wasn't Christmassey enough so I have made it again using Flurry by Kate Spain.

Thats all my show and tell for today, its going to rain here soon so can you guess where I'll be.  Have a great day.

My sewing room is finished and I'm having a give away.

Last Saturday my sewing room looked like this. Believe me I didn't know where to start. I slowly started sorting through the big pile of fabrics, crafts and books and putting them away.
Lucky for me everything fits beautifully in my new cupboards. I have 2 double door pantries and 2 singles so plenty of room.
I enjoyed setting up the  shelves above my desk,  Every now and again I can change things around. I thought a few Christmas items during the holiday season will look really pretty.
Of course the area above the cupboards is good for my quilts and a few boxes.
I spent most afternoons last week painting the book case. It came up really good. I like the freshness of white. I also like to be able to display things. I never could before as all my sewing goodies were in the laundry. I reckon I'll be changing that around to with different things.
I found this cute vase to hold some of my very special tilda fabric.
Here it is... my new but old sewing table. It  looks gorgeous in my room. At 100 years old it is in pretty good condition. We had to tie it  to the roof of the car last week to get it home. That was a scarey ride.
I still haven't painted my desk, I will get around to it next weekend I hope.  I have a shocking cold  and I have felt miserable all day. I had big plans to do things but I haven't done much at all.
I love this space, once the desk is painted it will be much nicer. So there you have it. My new sewing room. I still can't quite believe its mine. What do you think??
To celebrate the completion of my sewing room I'm having a give away. These 2 charm packs. Please leave  a comment telling me what you like most about your sewing room. I'll draw a winner next Sunday.

Friday night sewing results

Last night Cathy and I had so much fun sewing in my new room. We got our pre cuts ready to sew then Cathy wanted to make our first Union Jack block so we did that first. They were such fun to make. We are going to make a quilt each but work on our blocks  together. I'm really looking foreward to it.
This one is mine, I used my American Jane fabrics.
This one is Cathy, she is using French General.
Here she is with her finished block, isn't it gorgeous.
Here is me holding up mine, This is going to be a beautiful project to work on, the blocks go together quite easy once you get the hang of it. I cut a few strips wrong but got there in the end.
I did make my pin wheels from my charm packs, I made heaps of half square triangles then just before we decided to pack up for the night I made a few blocks. They look really pretty.
Today I was up at 6am. I couldn't sleep so I snuck into my sewing room and you know what I liked best.... everything was set up waiting for me. No setting up in the kitchen like I used to do. By 8.30 I had part of this quilt put together. Its strawberry fields fabric by Fig tree. Then I was hungry so it was time for breaky and a shower, a quick tidy up of the house, took the boys for a hair cut then just before lunch I was sewing again.
By 3pm I had this much of the quilt done. Just 2 more borders then its done. How easy was that.
Now I'm tired and its time to cook tea but thats Ok, I have had a great day in my new sewing room.
I'll be back tomorrow to show you the room and all my decorating. I hope you like it all.

Friday night sewing

Tonight my best sewing friend Cathy is coming over for a sewing night in my new sewing room, yay!!!!!
We joined Sarah's pre cut sewing session tonight. I have my 2 charm packs of Marmalade cut and ready to sew. I had a layer cake so I cut that up to make the pattern above.
My sewing room is just about ready, I just need to do a few minor things like finish painting the skirting board on one wall and paint my desk. I have moved everything in and I will share photos over the weekend. The first thing I sewed in my new room was my new curtains, they were too long so I had to take them up.
I found the perfect beige colour for my curtains, then I needed a new ironing board and as luck would have it, K Mart had it in a colour the same as my curtains so I had to get that. Paul bought me a new mat and of course it matches the curtains as well.  I can hear you all laughing right now.
I have had so much fun buying furniture for my sewing room, you should see my sewing table, its 100 years old and beautiful, I will show you a photo of that to very soon. Today Paul surprised me with this beautiful old chair. He said I needed an "old" chair to sit at my "old" table. I love it and him for thinking of me like that. Thanks honey.
Right Cathy will be here soon and we are going to sew up a  storm. I'll be back over the weekend with lots to show you including my decorating of my room.
I hope I'm not boring you all with all this sewing room talk.

What you have all been waiting for.

Well my sewing room is finally finished and I can finally move in. I am very excited and I can't wait to move my fabrics and things from the laundry. They have lived in there for 6 years and believe me it was getting crowded in there. Probably because I keep buying fabrics and making quilts.
I  moved the girls in and they were thrilled with their new room, they got a bit bored sitting in the hall way, now they watch me sew and give me some advice when I need help choosing just the right fabrics.
The floor went in last Monday and it looks beautiful. It really finishes off the room. Then on Tuesday the builder came back and put the frames around the door and window and the skirting board.
My husband surprised me with a TV mounted onto a moveable bracket, it has a built in DVD player. I came home from work and there it was. Thankyou Paul. You're a sweetie.
I have 5 down lights and they really light up the room well. I'm glad I thought of those.
Paul has been putting my storage cupboards together. I didn't hear too many swear words so I think they went together quite easy.  Whew.
Here they are ready to be filled with fabrics and lots of other goodies I have collected over the years.
I have a little office corner which I love. The shelves will be filled with all my favourite things. I can sit at the desk and read, use my computer and whatever I like really. I plan to paint the desk white, Paul has already sanded it back for me.
It was this gastly bright purple colour when we bought it. For $25 I thought it was a bargain.

So over the next few days I will be moving things in, we got a beautiful oak table today that is over 100 years old, Its going to be my sewing and cutting table and will go in the middle of the room. I'll share more pictures as the room gets full.
I just can't wait to sit in there surrounded by all my things and my stash and just sew. Sigh...

Have a wonderful weekend and I hope you find some sewing time.

Too many projects, Not enough time

I have been working really hard to get my Gardeners Journal quilt finished. I started this quilt about 2 years ago and finally I am motivated again to get going on it. Its coming along really good and I love doing the stitcheries.

This one of the lady weeding the garden is my favourite, I think its so cute.
I love this one to, the fabric I am using is called Wild rose by Black bird designs. Its so pretty.

I have more than half of the quilt put together and now I'm working on the bottom row.
I have also started a new quilt with a beautiful layer cake my mother in law sent me, its another Black bird design range called Cinnamon spice, its only new. Can you see a trend here. lol  I do like their fabrics.

I have completed block 3 of Sweet heart houses by Shabby fabrics, its a nice project to work on.
I have had such a busy week painting the inside of my sewing room, the walls are Antique white and it looks so fresh and clean. I couldn't  start painting until after work and its dark by 5pm so I was a very busy Lizzie. The flooring is going in on Monday which is why I wanted to paint first and the electrician is coming back to put in the lights and power points. I'll share some photos when these jobs are done as right now all you see is a white, bare room. Soon the fun begins and I'll be moving my things in and setting up. I can't wait.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend  and I hope you find some sewing time.

The big 5 0

Well its been a very fun week for me. Last Saturday I turned 50. It was a fun day of celebrations followed by a wonderful dinner with 30 ...
